Band of Brothers

Band of Brothers, a platoon’s fight in Afghanistan and their return home.

"There are things that these guys have expereienced that I know have scared them before and I'm hoping none of these guys have to go through that this time." - 1LT Mark Hogan, platoon leader of the U.S. Army's 2nd Platoon, Apache Company, 2nd Battalion 87th Infantry Regiment.

The Soldiers of 2nd Platoon, whom many consider a band of brothers, were oringally slated to deploy to Iraq but were re-routed to Afghanistan in early 2009. They were the U.S. forces' first major push into Afghanistan's Wardak and Logar provinces that saw a heavy anti-coaltion resurgence the year before marking the worse since the war beagn in 2001 for deaths among NATO forces. The brigade was the first substantial illustration of the new military focus in Afghanistan. Their return home to Fort Drum, N.Y., before New Year's Eve of 2009 brings a myriad of emotions as they readjust to normal life back home.
